The Company:Our client manages one of the world’s largest (and still growing) portfolios of Green House Gas (GHG) emissions reduction projects. The company works on behalf these projects to qualify their emissions reductions (ERs) and to place the resulting carbon credits / assets. Projects in our client’s portfolio include industrial energy processes (principally steel and cement), renewable energy projects, methane (from landfills, coal mines and other sources). In addition to carbon expertise, our client offers project design and optimisation services to its clients, which aim to optimise Emission reduction opportunities and to ensure successful delivery of carbon credits. The company currently works in four geographical areas, as listed below •South / Southern Africa •China •Russia and CIS •Central and E. Europe However, the company is now looking to increase the scale of its activities to take in projects globally, specifically in S.E.Asia.The Market OpportunitySince the implementation of the Kyoto Protocol, the signatories have pledged to reduce their emissions to 95% of 1990 levels by the 2008-2012 period. As of 2002 this means a reduction of 4 billion tonnes of C02. These emissions may be achieved by domestic policies and measures or by the so-called flexible mechanisms, such as JI and the CDM, which allow countries to purchase carbon credits from projects or activities in other countries which achieve real and measurable GHG emissions reduction.
