"Realme" first appeared in China back in 2010, named as "OPPO Real".

It was a sub-brand of OPPO Electronics Corporation until its separation in 2010 which allowed it to became an independent entity.

On July 30, 2018, former vice president of OPPO and head of OPPO's overseas business department, Bingzhong Li (Sky Li), announced on Weibo his official resignation from OPPO and the funding of the technology brand Realme. The Realme brand is focused on providing mobile phones that integrate strong performance and stylish design.
