Faculty of medicine and Health Sciences, Universiti Malaysia Sabah

UMS was established on 24 November 1994 and is the ninth public university in Malaysia. Currently, it has ten faculties which offers variety of major courses. The Faculty of Medicine and Health Science of UMS have been operating since 2003 with the aim to support the increasing demand for doctors and medical staffs. This was to cater for the professional human resource needs in Malaysia and the BIMP-EAGA area (Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines - East ASEAN Growth Area). Its main objective is to be the centre of assimilation and dissemination of knowledge along with discovery and innovation in the field of medicine and health sciences in Malaysia and the region.

 

For more than 15 years, the FMHS UMS have produced ten to nearly 1000 graduates. These graduates currently serve in all level of healthcare services throughout Malaysia with significant numbers have already completed postgraduate studies. With this outstanding success, the faculty is confident to proceed to the next level and open its doors to international students. 

 

The Medical Doctor program runs a five year (10 semester) course which will divided into Phase 1 (preclinical) in year 1-3 and Phase 2 (clinical) in year 4-5. Our medical education has, as its foundation, a combination of didactic instruction in the classroom and student-centred integrated, as well as hands-on learning in the clinical setting. During the clinical years, students will go through their clinical rotations in Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Queen Elizabeth Hospital II and Sabah Women and Child Hospital which are all renowned tertiary hospital in the region.  Students will have to sit for two major professional exams at the end of both phases besides continuous assessments.
